Selecting the right diamond ring setting is as important as selecting the right diamond. To some people, the only thing that matters is how beautiful the diamond is, and hardly anyone ever thinks to include the diamond ring setting in their decision making process. Unfortunately, the ring setting sets up the beauty of the diamond in a way that allows its true colors, or lack there of, to shine through.
Without the proper setting, the diamond’s luster would be lost and the ring would lose the overall effect that its bearer desires. There are several different kinds of settings, and the choice of the setting is both dependent on the person who is receiving the ring as well as the diamond itself. A setting that has the ring sitting alone atop the ring would highlight the size and shape of the diamond. This, obviously, would be the best idea for a ring that has a larger diamond and one that is perfectly cut and virtually colorless.
If the diamond is smaller and the ring would benefit from a setting that contains several other diamonds, a setting could be created that has much smaller diamonds around the central diamond. Depending on the carat weight, the diamond in the center would look as though it were in a sea of diamonds, and the recipient may get the impression that the ring contains more diamond than is actually there. Also, if the center diamond is a large enough carat to stand alone, it may benefit from setting with other diamonds to highlight how large but important it is.
